Whether you’re building confidence for expeditions, or simply wanting to be safer and more self-reliant on the moor, this course will give you the skills and confidence to navigate effectively after dark or in poor weather. The course is delivered in a supportive environment, with plenty of time spent navigating on the ground rather than classroom-based theory
Who Is It For?
For anyone who has already completed a intermediate or Silver NNAS course with Discover Dartmoor or another provider.
Course Syllabus
Accurate map and compass use in low-light conditions.
Taking and following bearings at night.
Distance estimation and pacing in darkness.
relocation techniques when things don’t go to plan.
Interpreting terrain features with limited visibility.
Group movement, safety, and decision-making after dark.
Common night navigation errors and how to avoid them.
